Kyuubi / Kiryu [R]

Kanji & Romaji: hiphopvomit
Translation: myself

Lyrics & music: Sakai Mitsuki

Nine-tailed fox

Licking one's lips in love that fueled and hid one's hunger     Counting on fingers, how many times it revolved
Young appearance      Conceived lust     Smeared in mystery     A gap in clouds     The moon showed itself in that hollow

The shadow of lies split into nine

Reality exposes the hunger, [while] engulfing the waning moon      The shadow of lies will fade and darken soon
Young appearance      Conceived lust     Smeared in mystery     Abortion of love     Devoting oneself     All the more

Even if still devouring, the stomach cannot be satisfied

We are going to have a feast this night     Intoxicate yourself in this fried dinner
We are going to have a feast this night     Laugh, dance and go crazy

While fluttering and revolving tails     Having sex in a beastly way
Turbulent sea is a delightful dream     Sweet enticement is a wedding ceremony in the rain
While swaying and dancing between one's fingers     Sexual intercourse is a consolation reeking of blood
Like slurping a dried sea     This night that knows no light is a wedding ceremony in the rain

An impure song resounds in the moonless night     A couple of      Breaths mix together     and scatter
Young appearance      Conceived lust     Smeared in mystery     While breathing hard, I couldn't help showing off    Charming claws and tusks

A love we talked about together
A love we engraved together
This whole love was a lie

I'll tamper your scum underfoot when I finish eating you, my dear... While waving my tails

Discussion:

If you have ever watched Naruto, then you probably already know what kyuubi is. I have never happened to watch Naruto, nonetheless being an anime/manga trash like me often leads to being friends with Naruto fans. However, I will attempt to explain its origins to you as well, since this folklore figure is the main subject of this song.

Foxes (kitsune) in Japan have been considered mystical and magical creatures and spirits since ancient times. They come up in all shapes (literally and figuratively), meaning they can be wicked and mischevious (youko) as well as they can protect humans and bring some good luck to them (zenko; mostly those foxes associated with Inari - the god of rice). Kitsune are great shapeshifters fond of tricks and pranks. Those tricksters will turn themselves into humans in order to deceive you or simply make fun of you for their own entertainment. Yet, this power has its limits. Young foxes do not possess a full control of their abilities, therefore they cannot transform themselves completely. In general, kitsune gain their power and wisdom along with their age. Also, the more venerable, the more tails one possesses (up to nine). Both Japanese and Chinese believed that if a fox turned one thousand years, it would transform into kyuubi - the mighty nine-tailed fox with white or gold fur.

Female foxes (sometimes called megitsune) are often presented as lovers of human-beings in Japanese mythology. They were usually caring mothers and devoted wives. In contrast, nine-tailed megitsune were pictured as cruel and merciless seductresses. They would lure their preys into romantic relationships in order to devour their bodies and souls.

Speaking of marriage, kitsune are believed to celebrate their own wedding within their species, namely Kitsune no Yomeiri (also known as Kitsune no Yomitori or Kitsune no Shugen; Mitsuki referred to the latter in Kyuubi). This procession illuminated by foxfire lanterns (kitsunebi - will-'o-the-wisps created by foxes in order to fool humans) was meant exclusively for foxes to participate. If a reckless human happened to witness the fox wedding, it would be an equivalent to death for him or her. This rite is also associated with sunshowers, because people believed that foxes hide their procession by summoning the rain with their magical powers.

To put everything altogheter, we have here a story about a fellow kyuubi megitsune who deceived a human male in order to eat him. As the fox does not want to be witnessed, she hides her actions in the rain.

I hope this is clear as the sky during the Kitsune no Yomeiri.
